John Chavis knows defense and is highly-skilled in the player development department.

The newly-hired Texas A&M assistant coach has led defenses in the SEC since 1989 and during that stretch, has produced 71 NFL prospects, most of those coming during his time at Tennessee from 1989-08.

Texas A&M fans on social media have used the recently-released list of former players to coax others into signing with the Aggies this season. Texas A&M is putting the full-court press on five-star tackle Daylon Mack over the next few weeks hoping to add his name to an impressive class on signing day.

Some of the high-profile draft picks coached by Chavis include Tyrann Mathieu, Morris Claiborne and Patrick Peterson from LSU along with Tennessee’s Jerod Mayo, Al Wilson and Leonard Little.

The Chief inherits a defense at Texas A&M this spring that returns the bulk of its talent in the front seven including Western Division sack leader Myles Garrett (11.5). He’s expected to bring an attacking scheme to a program that has struggled on defense during Kevin Sumlin’s tenure.
