Former Texas A&M QB Johnny Manziel’s problems from recent weeks are well documented, and his alleged altercation with an ex-girlfriend may soon lead to legal action.

But on Tuesday, some new information emerged about the former first-round pick of the Cleveland Browns.

According to NFL Networks’ Mike Silver, Manziel was drunk when he showed up for a Wednesday practice during the week of the NFL regular season.

Instead of revealing that, the Browns instead said that Manziel had been placed in the NFL’s concussion protocol.

You can watch Silver’s complete segment on Manziel here, but Pro Football Talk has the excerpt to focus on right here:

“Johnny Manziel, going into what would have been a start late in the season, showed up drunk at practice on a Wednesday. The Browns lied and said he was in the concussion protocol. Let me repeat that: The Browns lied, to try to protect, and I would argue enable, this irresponsible and very troubled young man,” Mike Silver said on the air on NFL Network.

Manziel was slated to potentially start that Week 17 game, but the Browns obviously saw that he was unfit to lead an NFL team.

With the heightened scrutiny of concussions in the NFL, it is likely that the league is not happy about the Browns using that very serious protocol as a cover up for the shenanigans of their wayward quarterback.

As for Manziel, that was likely the nail in the coffin for his career with the Browns, and is another black mark on his resume as he faces the fact that he may not have another opportunity to play in the league.

Although former Texas A&M LB and recent Super Bowl MVP Von Miller is still in Manziel’s corner when it comes to his chances for playing football again, telling ESPN’s Mike & Mike that he believes he’ll come out of this.

It seems as though Manziel has plenty of personal obstacles to clear before he can even begin to think about quarterbacking a football team again.
