Former Oregon wide receiver Kirk Merritt announced Friday afternoon that he will transfer to Texas A&M.

Merritt (5-foot-11, 205 pounds) was a 4-star member of the 2015 recruiting class, where he served as the nation’s No. 171 overall prospect and the No. 5-ranked all-purpose running back. He committed to the Ducks over LSU and Texas A&M following a senior high school season that featured 713 total yards and six touchdowns in seven games.

As a freshman with Oregon in 2015, Merritt caught five passes for 61 yards and no touchdowns. His versatility will give the Aggies coaching staff plenty of options for utilization as either a slot wide receiver or tailback.

He announced his departure from the program last month, citing “family situations back home.” Merritt is from Destrehan, LA.

Due to NCAA transfer rules, Merritt will be forced to sit out the 2016 season.
