In passionate in-state rivalries, such as Tennessee and Vanderbilt, the records can be deceptive. The team that wins is often the team that plays the hardest.

Here are five impact players to watch for Tennessee as the Volunteers attempt to cap their regular season with a five-game winning streak:

1. P Trevor Daniel: Vanderbilt’s offense is struggling move the chains, and as long as Daniel continues to punt the ball as effectively as he has done in recent weeks, the Vols will force the Commodores to put together long drives to score. Last Saturday, with the help of Daniel’s punts, Tennessee forced Missouri to begin five of its possessions at its own 11-yard line or worse.

2. RB Jalen Hurd: When Tennessee’s offense is struggling, the Vols rely on Hurd to get the chains. Last week, Tennessee was the first team this season to rush for over 100 yards by halftime against Missouri. Hurd led the Vols with 108 yards in the first half, and on a day when QB Joshua Dobbs was struggling to find his rhythm, Hurd carried Tennessee to 19-8 win with 34 carries for 151 yards.

3. QB Joshua Dobbs: The Junior hasn’t looked comfortable throwing the football in recent weeks — 136 and 89 yards passing against North Texas and Missouri, respectively — but Tennessee’s offense is hard to stop when he gets in a rhythm.

4. S Brian Randolph: Fifth-year senior Brian Randolph provides the Vols defense with energy. He’s second on the team with 60 tackles and has one interception.

5. LB Jalen Reeves-Maybin: Reeves-Maybin is always around the football. He leads Tennessee’s defense with 96 tackles, including four sacks and 12 tackles for loss.
