Monday Night Football analyst and former NFL head coach Jon Gruden is a fan of Butch Jones. Gruden, who severed as a graduate assistant at Tennessee from 1986-87, praised the second-year coach during an interview with FOX 17 in Nashville.

“I have a lot of orange blood in my body. They have the right coach now, Butch Jones is for real. I have spent a lot of time with Butch over the years. They are hot right now. They have a young quarterback, they have some skill players. I am always going to be a Volunteer and be a big fan.”

Jones was hired in December 2012 after a coaching search that included Gruden as a rumored candidate. However, Gruden informed Tennessee that he wasn’t interested in becoming the team’s head coach, according to Josh Ward and Jimmy Hyams of WNML.
