As Lane Kiffin prepares for his return to Knoxville this weekend, its evident that the disdain from Tennessee fans still runs high. So much so that his name was used in a negative local political ad.

Gloria Johnson, a Democratic Incumbent member of the Tennessee House of Representatives, is facing a reelection battle with Republican Eddie Smith. As Alabama travels to Knoxville with Kiffin as its offensive coordinator, Smith decided to use the opportunity to compare his opponent to the former Vols head coach.

The ad features a picture of Kiffin alongside Johnson with the following slogans:

“It’s time to show big talkers like Lane Kiffin and Gloria Johnson that we mean business.”

“Like Lane Kiffin, who made a lot of big promises to Tennesseans, Gloria Johnson went to Nashville claiming she was going to reform health care and create jobs. And like Lane Kiffin, Gloria Johnson didn’t live up to her word.”

Kiffin left Tennessee for Southern California after just one season in January 2010. The Vols went 7-5 under Kiffin in 2009, which was their last winning season.

Johnson, a Tennessee grad, has been endorsed by former Tennessee player and head coach Johnny Majors.
