The University of Tennessee is under federal investigation for alleged sexual crimes on campus, and several of them allegedly involve football players, according to the Tennessean.

The U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights confirmed it launched its investigation on June 29.

“While privacy laws prevent the university from disclosing the details of the complaint, I can assure you we will cooperate fully with OCR as it investigates the complaint,” Tennessee chancellor Jimmy Cheek said in an email to the Tennessean.

Over the last three years, at least six Tennessee football players have been accused of sexual assault: Von Pearson, Michael Williams, A.J. Johnson, Marlin Lane, Riyahd Jones and another unnamed player have all been accused.

Johnson and Williams were allegedly involved in a 2014 November sexual assault of another student athlete. Johnson was named a suspect, while Williams has been indicted on charges, according to the report.

Pearson, Lane and Jones were all named suspects in separate attacks. No arrests have been made in those cases, however.

As the Tennessean reports, Tennessee isn’t the only university in the country to have a federal investigation into sexual crimes.
