Vanderbilt is playing good football, off to a 2-0 start in 2018. Commodores coach Derek Mason says playing in the SEC insures his squad won’t be intimidated by playing in the land of Touchdown Jesus.

But VU faces a tall task in trying to upset No. 8 Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish are also 2-0 and have shown they have what it takes to beat a top-15 team, knocking off No. 14 Michigan 24-17 in Week 1.

SDS News: Upset alert? Kirk Herbstreit explains how Vanderbilt can upset Notre Dame

When Vanderbilt travels to South Bend on Saturday afternoon, ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit doesn’t think the Commodores will be caught up in the history. In fact, he went as far as to say on College GameDay that he thinks the ‘Dores will come out of the game with a win:

“I don’t think there’s this aura that intimidates the Vandy players,” he said. “I think Vandy is going to win this game. You’ve got a veteran quarterback in Kyle Shurmur who can dink and dunk, move the chains. It’ll be close, but I think Vandy wins this game.”

SDS News: Vanderbilt reveals unique uniform combo for game at Notre Dame

The Vanderbilt Commodores face a very tough test this weekend, traveling to South Bend to take on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

However, the Commodores are 2-0 and their defense is looking stout (and the offense serviceable) as they move through their schedule.

When they take on the Fighting Irish this weekend, they’ll do so in a sleek uniform combination — with white helmets, white jerseys and white pants.

Flashback: Derek Mason talks trip to Notre Dame at SEC Media Days

SEC Media Days were held July 17-19 at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta. When Vanderbilt coach Derek Mason spoke to the media, he was asked the Commodores’ trip to Notre Dame. He may have delivered the quote of the day with his reponse.

“Yeah, we play in the SEC,” Mason said. “I don’t worry about going to South Bend.”
