Former Alabama QB Blake Sims was a member of the Crimson Tide teams that won the 2012 and 2013 BCS National Championships and, as a starter in 2014, lost to Ohio State in the semifinals of the College Football Playoff.

As Sims has transitioned to the NFL, he switched from quarterback to running back, taking advantage of his foot speed and field vision.

He signed with the Atlanta Falcons’ practice squad earlier this month, but due to the Falcons’ need at linebacker, Sims was cut on Friday evening.

According to AL.com, Atlanta coach Dan Quinn wished Sims didn’t have to be the odd man out:

“For a guy that has great flat speed, he really has a very good change of direction,” Quinn said. “He caught the ball well. He’s an athlete who’s played a number of spots. He had a real sense of urgency about him the way he was working out.”

Prior to signing with Atlanta, Sims had also worked out with the Green Bay Packers and Washington Redskins.
