The way Chad Morris tells it, he knew Arkansas would struggle out of the gate in his first year running the Razorback program. While the struggle on the field was very real for the Hogs last season, Morris claims things are better than they were at this time last year.

During a recent appearance on SiriusXM program “SEC This Morning,” Morris offered up some insight on what he was seeing from his program during his first spring in Fayetteville.

“We knew there were going to be some challenging times, that wasn’t — I didn’t walk in and go, ‘Okay, this is completely shocking to me.’ I knew we were going to struggle,” Morris revealed. “When you change different philosophies from where they were to where we were heading, I knew there was some uphill climbs we had to take.”

With his second Arkansas spring camp in the rearview mirror, Morris says the players are now comfortable in the system and considering the Razorbacks only suffered a single coaching departure this offseason, defensive line coach John Scott Jr. left for South Carolina, the continuity of the coaching staff should also benefit the program in 2019.

“Anything you do in the second year, you are going to be better at,” Morris continued. “Our guys understand the system, they understand the coaches more, and from that alone, offensively we are going to be better.”
