Auburn continues to fill out its offensive staff with the addition of former North Carolina running backs coach Larry Porter.

Porter has been hired by the Tigers to serve as an offensive assistant, according to 247Sports. He has coached at UNC since 2014, where he helped build a potent rushing attack behind Elijah Hood and T.J. Logan.

It remains unclear what Porter’s exact role will be at Auburn, but he inherits one of the best running back groups in the SEC. Kamryn Pettway and Kerryon Johnson combined for 2,119 yards and 18 touchdowns last season for the Tigers and will lead an experienced offense next fall.

Outside of his coaching acumen, Porter brings plenty of recruiting prowess to the table. Rivals.com named Porter the National Recruiter of the Year in 2007 and 2009, and he should bolster the program’s recruiting efforts in several key regions.

Porter has prior experience in the SEC, as he served as assistant head coach at LSU from 2005-09.
