Auburn signed only one linebacker in its 2016 recruiting class — three-star recruit Tre’ Threat.

First-year linebackers coach Travis Williams told AL.com he would like to have more players to work with in the 2017 class:

“It all depends on how the numbers shape out,” Williams said this summer. “I get how many they allow me to sign. It just depends. I don’t know. I can’t give you all the details.”

The Tigers already have 2017 commitments from four-star ILB T.D. Moultry and three-star OLB Chandler Wooten, but Williams would like to add one or two more players.

As Auburn continues to target more 2017 linebackers, including four-star recruit Will Ignont, Williams said he believes players will be willing to suit up for the Tigers:

“At the end of the day, when it comes to recruiting it’s very easy to sell a product that you believe in, and I believe in this product,” Williams said this spring. “It’s not just a job. It’s not one of those deals where it’s musical chairs and you may be at this school then go to this school. I’m selling a product that I believe in. I’m selling a product that impacted my life.”

Auburn opens the 2016 season on Saturday, Sept. 3, against Clemson at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
