Though wearing a visor on the sideline will always be associated with Head Ball Coach Steve Spurrier, Auburn fans have grown accustomed to seeing their own head coach, Gus Malzahn sporting the look on the sideline.

However, on Saturday, Malzahn ditched the visor for a hat, prompting speculation on what spurred the change.

Malzahn joked with reporters that the change is permanent because his family wants him to hide his receding hairline:

“My daughters said something about me wearing a visor,” Malzahn said. “I need to put on a hat because I’m getting bald, so I’m going to wear a hat from here on out.”

In a stroke of unfortunate, yet ironic, timing, legendary coach Steve Spurrier said on College GameDay that he picked Auburn to beat LSU because of Malzahn’s visor.

Malzahn was surprised by that news and joked that he’d have to give Spurrier a call:

“Man, I got to apologize to him,” Malzahn said. “It’s all my daughters; I mean, I got Kristi and my two girls who are on me. I saw a replay and it looked pretty bad so that’s the reason I’m going to wear a hat.”

Malzahn’s hat will make its second-straight appearance on Saturday when the Tigers host Louisiana-Monroe.
