Auburn coach Gus Malzahn confirmed RB Roc Thomas will transfer in a statement Tuesday.

“Roc Thomas has asked for his release from Auburn and I have granted his request,” Malzahn said in a school release. “We wish him nothing but the best moving forward.”

There had been rumors of Thomas’ transfer for multiple days before Rivals’ Jay G. Tate announced Thursday that the Tigers running back would be leaving the program.

Thomas, who rushed for 465 yards and three touchdowns on 86 carries in two years at AU, was looking at the No. 3 spot on the running back depth chart behind Jovon Robinson and Kerryon Johnson.

If Thomas signs with Jacksonville State, as all reports have suggested, he will be able to play immediately as part of the NCAA’s FBS-to-FCS transfer rules.

Saturday Down South has chronicled how the Thomas transfer is the latest chapter in a rocky offseason on The Plains.
