After a thorough search, Auburn has found its new offensive coordinator.

The program announced on Saturday afternoon that former Arizona State offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey had been hired to replace the departed Rhett Lashley. It’s a return to Auburn for Lindsey, who served as an offensive analyst for the Tigers’ SEC championship season in 2013.

Although Lindsey might be familiar with the program, there are likely a few fans who don’t know much about his resume.

For starters, Arizona State averaged 33.3 points per game with Lindsey calling the shots. That average was 40th among all college football teams and two points more than Auburn’s average total.

Prior to joining Arizona State, Lindsey was the offensive coordinator at Southern Mississippi from 2014-15. Lindsey helped the Golden Eagles’ offense set numerous school records in 2015, including a new benchmark for total points at 528.

Lindsey has plenty of experience coaching quarterbacks, which should come in handy with new quarterback Jarrett Stidham. In addition to serving as offensive coordinator, Lindsey was also the quarterbacks coach at Arizona State and Southern Miss.

Soon after the news became official, Stidham expressed his opinion of the hire:

Lindsey’s offenses have historically been proficient at throwing the ball, and his comfort in that aspect should help the Tiger find a dynamic balance.
