Steve Spurrier is doing his part to support Florida’s plans for $100 million in new facilities and improvements to current facilities.

Athletic director Scott Stricklin acknowledged a $100,000 contribution from Spurrier on Twitter.

Spurrier hopes it will lead to more contributions from those in position to donate.

In July, Spurrier returned to Florida as an ambassador and consultant to the athletic department. He played college football at UF (1963-66), winning the Heisman Trophy in 1966. He became the head coach of the Gators in 1990. After 12 seasons with Florida, including six conference championships and the 1996 national title, Spurrier left for the NFL. The Head Ball Coach came back to the college game in 2005, coaching South Carolina for 11 seasons.

In February, Florida announced the “Game Changer initiative” after completing $106 million in facility upgrades:

We have just finished $106 million in facility upgrades over the past 17 months and to further show our commitment to improved shared experiences, we are launching another wave of facility projects totaling $100 million. This includes a stand-alone football complex and renovations to the baseball and softball stadiums. Gator Boosters has established a goal of $50 million in private support to fund these critical projects.

UF renamed its field to Steve Spurrier-Florida Field in September.
