It’s not often that a student assistant comes to a football team with a hall of fame resume. But, then again, most student assistants aren’t College Football Hall of Fame kicker Kevin Butler.

The former UGA All-American is now back in Athens as a student to finish earning his undergraduate degree. Because he is enrolled in classes as an undergrad, Butler is able to join the Bulldogs as a student assistant.

He is allowed on the field during practices and games, which could provide Georgia with some much-needed guidance as it tries to find a new kicker. Kirby Smart commented on the situation, following Tuesday’s practice, and he seems excited to have him on board.

Butler player for the Bulldogs from 1981-84 and was a two-time All-American and four-time All-SEC selection. He finished his career as Georgia’s all-time leading scorer with 353 points, which remains fourth in the record books.
