The Georgia coaching staff continues to grow as former Miami player Dallas Crawford has joined Kirby Smart’s staff.

Crawford’s Twitter account confirms his role as a coach on Smart’s staff but does not list his specific title with the team.

A native of south Florida, Crawford becomes the latest assistant with ties to the area to join an SEC East coaching staff. Florida, Tennessee, and Kentucky have all made similar additions to their staffs recently, giving them all better access to the fertile recruiting ground of the south Florida area.

Crawford played on both sides of the ball for the Hurricanes from 2011-2015, playing quarterback, running back and safety during his career. Crawford was also a team captain his final season at Miami. Georgia’s current receivers coach James Coley also coached Miami’s receivers during Crawford’s final season in Coral Gables.

While Crawford’s exact role is not known at this time, it’s interesting to note that former Georgia assistant Kevin Beard, now Tennessee’s receivers coach, also coached Crawford during his playing career at Miami. It stands to reason that Crawford will be taking over a similar role Beard had on Georgia’s staff last season, considering they both come from the same coaching tree and have connections to Coley.
