Does Mark Richt want to coach his alma mater? That remains to be seen.

But according to CBS Sports, the Miami head coaching job is Richt’s if he wants it.

Several sources told CBS Sports on Wednesday afternoon they believe Richt is Miami’s No. 1 candidate. An unnamed source close to the process told CBS, “It’s his job if he wants it.”

Richt was fired as Georgia’s coach on Sunday, after going 145-51 in 15 seasons with the Bulldogs. He led the team to its only two SEC championships in the past 30 years.

Miami has been looking for a new head coach since firing Al Golden on Oct. 26, following a 58-0 home loss to Clemson.

Richt’s name had been mentioned as a possibility even before his firing. He was a quarterback at Miami from 1979-82, and is from the south Florida city of Boca Raton.

Richt has not said if he’s interested in the job, or if he even wants to coach next season. Reports have said his family wants him to take a year off.

Missouri and Virginia have also reportedly shown interest in the former Georgia coach.

Miami also reportedly interviewed Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen, former Hurricanes coach Butch Davis and former Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Greg Schiano over the weekend.
