For the second time in his career, LSU RB Leonard Fournette is the winner of the Corbett Award, presented annually to the most outstanding amateur male and female athletes in Louisiana.

“I’m extremely humbled and proud to be named the recipient of this award,” Fournette said in a media release. “There are so many great athletes in the state of Louisiana and to be named the Corbett Award winner this year is a tribute to the great teammates that I’m surrounded by and our outstanding coaching staff.”

Since its 1967 beginning, the Corbett Award claims 16 NFL players, eight Major League Baseball players, four NBA players (including two Hall of Famers), eight Olympians (including seven Gold Medal winners), three WNBA players and one PGA Tour star among its winners.

Fournette previously claimed the award following his senior season in high school, and joins LSU hoops legends Shaquille O’Neal and Pete Maravich as the award’s only two-time winners. He will receive the award, named for former LSU athletics director James J. Corbett, at the Greater New Orleans Sports Hall of Fame Banquet on Aug. 6 at the Mercedes Benz Superdome in New Orleans.

By all indications, this fall will be Fournette’s final season of amateur athletics as he is projected as an early first-round pick in next year’s NFL Draft.
