Shelton Sampson Jr. is staying home. The 5-star wide receiver out of Baton Rouge announced his commitment to play for LSU on Saturday.

Sampson narrowed his options down to LSU, Alabama, Texas A&M and Florida State heading into his Saturday commitment ceremony at his high school. The hat on the table for “Alabama” actually had the A logo of the Atlanta Braves, an early hint that Sampson was not picking the Crimson Tide.

A pair of area talents, 4-star QB Rickie Collins and 4-star CB Jordan Matthews, were on hand for the festivities.

Sampson, a Catholic-Baton Rouge High School standout, is listed at 6-4, 181 pounds. He is rated 5-stars, the No. 3 Louisiana recruit, No. 4 wide receiver and No. 33 prospect overall in the class of 2023 on the 247Sports composite rankings.

Sampson is commitment No. 18 for LSU’s 2023 recruiting class, the first full cycle for Brian Kelly and his staff. His junior-season highlights from 2021 can be viewed below, via Hudl:
