Missouri coach Barry Odom was proud to note that none of his players entered the transfer portal in the offseason, especially after a postseason ban was imposed.

But an issue that first came up earlier this offseason when Odom made remarks direct at Tennessee for alleging reaching out to members of the Missouri senior class was revisited at SEC Media Days. Odom was asked at least twice from the main podium about the issue in general, following these comments from several months ago.

“Everybody is going to have a bad day,” Odom said, expressing his frustration with keeping his players from transferring. “You combine that with somebody that — who’d we beat 51-17 this year? Tennessee? Yeah, those guys. They are non-stop reaching out daily [saying], ‘Hey, come here.’ The grass is not always greener somewhere else.”

Odom was asked separately on Monday at SEC Media Days about Tennessee trying to recruit his players and his relationship with Pruitt.

“No. Jeremy (Pruitt) and I spoke, I wasn’t just singling out one school,” Odom said. “We were able to visit in-person soon after that, we had meetings in Birmingham — head coaches meetings. So it was good to be able to visit and also understand how recruiting goes. If I have time to sit around and think about that, I’ve got issues. We are okay and everyone is a competitor and want to build their team as good as they can build it and when you have good players, that’s a good thing that people want them.”

As the transfer portal continues to be a frequent topic of discussion across the SEC and college football in general, there doesn’t appear to be any reason for this kind of chatter to stop any time soon.
