Former Ole Miss QB Chad Kelly had a big preseason debut for the Denver Broncos last week, throwing for two touchdowns and thoroughly outplaying former first-round pick Paxton Lynch.

Now, Kelly has been moved up to No. 2 on the depth chart, behind starter Case Keenum. That, apparently, has angered Lynch.

Per MileHighReport.com, Lynch doesn’t understand why he’s been demoted. Coach Vance Joseph said it’s simple — Lynch has to play better:

“He is upset and he didn’t like it,” Joseph said on Tuesday. “He wants to know why. He’s got to play better. It’s as simple as that. It’s a competition. It’s the league. Everyone is doing this. No one is not playing their best players. It’s really more about Chad [Kelly]. Chad has competed and Chad’s played well. If Chad’s not playing well, [Lynch] is still the 2. It’s really more about what Chad has done from the spring to now.”

If Lynch doesn’t understand why he was demoted after the way Kelly played on Saturday night, perhaps he should just pop in the game tape.

For now, Kelly is the No. 2 guy in Denver, and we’ll have to see if he can hold onto that job for the rest of the summer.
