It’s that time already to where we start to see players’ NFL stocks rise and fall. I caught up with my NFL scout buddy to get the weekly draft stock news about SEC players.

Defense, defense, defense. (Poor quarterbacks, we never get any attention. Where’s that sarcasm font again?)

The scouts, as usual, are infatuated with the SEC’s defensive players. Alabama is leading the charge in this week’s update.

STOCK UP

  • DE Jordan Jenkins, Georgia: The 6-foot-3, 247-pound defensive end has been on a rampage this season. What separates him is his never-ending motor combined with terrific instincts, a combination that results in him always being around the ball. Jenkins, who had six tackles in the lopsided loss to Alabama, has improved his stock each week this season.
  • DL A’Shawn Robinson, Alabama: At 6-foot-4, 325 pounds, Robinson has lived up to his hype. He was a five-star recruit and top-ranked DT coming out of high school, and has been a disruptive force on the Bama’s defensive interior. He is a great pass rusher as well — already has 5 hurries. He has a very long reach (has one breakup) and a very quick burst off the line.
  • CB Cameron Sutton, Tennessee: The 6-foot-1, 180-pounder has shot up draft boards, according to my source. He is a tad lighter than preferred — and will need to add 10-15 pounds — but makes up for it in his ability to tackle. His cover skills and make up speed are what really increased his stock.
  • RB Derrick Henry, Alabama: Henry is drawing comparison to Eddie George. At 6-foot-3, 240, Henry is a load to bring down and has the burst to peel away from defenders. A Florida native, Will Muschamp recruited him to play linebacker, not running back. Oops. I think Nick Saban made the right move by letting the nation’s all-time leading rusher in high school history play running back. He’s shot up the draft board by showing his breakaway speed and ability to catch out of the backfield as well as being able to pick up blitzing linebackers. He’s a quarterback’s best friend in every sense. He showed off the burst last week, highlighted by this 30-yard touchdown run, part of a 148-yard day.

  • LB Reggie Ragland, Alabama: The Bama native is one of the best inside linebackers in this years draft class. He has prototypical size, at 6-foot-2, 255 pounds, but his football IQ and motor has him regarded so high. Alabama runs a NFL defense and that is why they typically have such early success in their NFL careers.

STOCK DOWN

  • WR Duke Williams, Auburn: Obviously the biggest potential draft development this week was Auburn’s decision to dismiss Duke Williams. There’s no denying Williams’ talent, but my scouting source said many teams will remove players with questionable character from their draft board entirely.
