After not having much to say during the latest SEC West Coaches Teleconference, Texas A&M head coach Kevin Sumlin has finally released a statement Monday following his wide receivers coach Aaron Moorehead’s infamous Twitter rant.

“Last week, one of our assistant coaches, Aaron Moorehead, abused the privilege of social media and the result reflected poorly on Aaron, on our football program and on Texas A&M,” Sumlin said in a statement. “He has apologized publicly and privately for his actions and I am confident that he understands the expectations moving forward.

“However, there are consequences for actions and Aaron has been disciplined and the details will remain private. We will use this as a learning tool for all of our coaches, staff and student-athletes, and we are now moving forward as a program.”

The assistant’s rant clearly hurt the Aggies’ recruiting efforts, as four-star receiver Mannie Netherly decommitted immediately after seeing the tweets from Moorehead. Adding to A&M’s woes, five-star receiver Tyjon Lindsey took to Twitter to proclaim he had eliminated Texas A&M from consideration after seeing Moorehead’s rant.

As Sumlin points out, Moorehead has since apologized for the Twitter rant as A&M appears more than ready to move on from this incident, as according to 247Sports’ Taylor Hamm notes, the Aggies are already hosting new receiver prospects on campus for unofficial visits:
