The game is evolving, whether liked or not. I'm mixed on it. Players were basically exploited for a long time. The combination of free player movement and NIL has changed the tenor of the game. I support both, but guardrails are needed. NIL contracts are a mystery. Can't help but think there are young men and their families being exploited by "reps/agents" who get a piece of the NIL deal. Are NIL deals all $ up front? Per year? Should it "obligate" player services like a contract for a set amount of time? Right now it can't because the schools are not involved directly. It's a mess. I'm not advocating we go "back to the old days." Bowl games as traditionally played are dying, though. The 12-team playoff model will make the regular season more exciting. The playoff games themselves will be exciting. Everything evolves. Free player movement combined with unregulated NIL will create so much chaos it'll be unmanageable. That needs to be addressed, one way or another. Happy New Year to you all. Cheers!
Gators were dominated by a better UK team. Period. What a performance by Davis. As expected UK defense was so solid, so consistent. Coach Stoops has really built UK into an impressive program that can win every time they take the field. No answers, no excuses from this Gator fan. Any/all criticism is well deserved. The sun will rise tomorrow, but, dang... Congrats UK. Best of luck the rest of the way.
Gators run game will need to mix-in pulling guards/tackles to disrupt the disciplined UK gap defense. We also need to be able to set the edge quickly. Too much lateral running to the sidelines will not get it done. Contain, contain contain! Very doable. Then play action game opens up and UK ends up on their heels. Either way, close game. A disruptive Gator D holds the line with good pressure on the QB. A small number of critical plays decides the outcome. 4th down hold or conversion, untimely turnover or critical field goal. Which team makes the plays needed? Gonna be a rock-fight. Gators 24-20.
UK defense, notably the front 7, are a disciplined group. Consistent maintaining gaps and tackle well. IMO, their greatest strength developed by Coach Stoops over the last 4 years. Gators need to establish run lanes and get to the edge quickly. If we can, the offense should produce yards especially off play-action (not exactly a Nobel Prize worthy game plan!) UK offense, can't really say. Haven't seen them play much. Gator D, especially up front is showing out. Gators 24-20.
A good opening performance by UT. Confidence building win. UVa did show some grit on D in the first half, but don't have the horses on either side of the ball. UT showed impressive defensive team speed overall. UVa offense was shut down by a UT D really flying to the ball. Nice game Vols.
Florida has a bit of a road ahead. The '23 season schedule plus loss of production from '22 players, eesh. 6-6, hard as it is to acknowledge seems realistic. '24 recruiting class looking solid! Even with that, Gators are in a build-out mode. Patience is a virtue...To now wonder if UF has the horses to take down UK, USC(e) or even Vandy...pride goeth before the fall. Don't sleep on us...we just might bite you in is a__!
Congrats to LSU...You guys brought the hammer and UF couldn't keep up. We'll see you again. Loved the quote from this week...LSU/UF in baseball is a combination of cat-nip, plus hot-sauce and a shot of whiskey...just never know. Cheers Tigahs...you earned it. We'll see you again.
Dare you to stand in front of this team, point your finger in their face and call them quitters. Jac, Sully and the rest...Do us all a favor and switch to de-caf. You mentioned in earlier posts you have a grandkid. So wonderful. Children need guidance, values, morals. Grandpa always in their corner. Take them fishing..I'm sure you have a boat..go waterskiing. Stay the H away from sports and what it stands for. Don't go away mad, just go away.
Gator fan, here. I'm happy for UT. Our conference is stronger with UT doing well...and more fun. UF gonna bring it in Omaha. LSU, UT got strong teams. Love this conference across the board. Will be a while to embrace Texas and Oklahoma, though. Gator football...eesh...hard days ahead. Take your best shot everyone... natty's in track and golf does give pride though..Bring it home Sully!
Talking season is ramping up early this year! An absolutely inane article. Made us read it though. Buckle up, one of many more...
Possession with intent to deliver/distribute, firearm with quite a bit of cash. I'm no lawyer, but this, I believe is a felony. A serious one. Possession for personal use-type offenses are pretty well glossed over in our world these days. Misdemeanor. This is a different level. Revocation of scholarship/dismissal from team. Expulsion from the University? All this assumes guilt/complicity. Talented kid. Very unfortunate.
What are NIL "terms?" Rashada gets a "deal" for $13M. That's $3.25M per year for 4 years. If he's worth that, he won't be in college 4 years. Like the back-end of NFL deals. Does he get the $ from day 1? What does an NIL fine print contract say? Gets the $ if he plays "X" number of games? "X" number of plays? All-America status? What if he gets injured, suspended for poor grades, heaven forbid run afoul of the law, redshirts or just flames-out? Still gets the $? Collectives represent high value boosters. These people didn't get where they are by throwing money away for a representative that gets paid to attend birthday parties or do car dealership ads. Not at $3.25M a year. This is a black box scenario. The collectives could/should form an industry group, agree on best-practices. ...stay outside judicial issues and regulations. Not holding my breath this will happen anytime soon...too early in this madness to come together and agree on anything, but worth considering.
Later, kid. This situation will happen across all the CFB landscape going forward. Likely already has, just not reported. The Collectives say one thing, change terms after a kid signs...the University can't be involved by rule, but we all know there are conversations anyway and the NLI is voided. Throw shade at UF, everyone. Take your best shot. Then remember, your school likely to be next in this s...show. Wish this kid good luck...honestly. He's making decisions in his best interests based on rules in hand. Guardrails needed though for the good of the sport.
NIL created a misconception that's taking advantage of these high school kids. If this Rashada story is accurate, he signed with UF because of an NIL deal outside the univeristy purview. NIL deal changed (or something did), now the player wants out of his NLI. Can't have it both ways. If he wants out, I say let him go. System regulating the relationship between universities and NIL co-ops (or whatever we want to call them) needs to happen. Such a mess, that didn't begin with this kid and certainly won't end with him. At the end of the day, college football, in all their good-intended egoism, continues to see young men being taken advantage of. Get off the high horse and regulate this s...show.
I'm sorry, kid, you signed with the Univeristy. NIL is outside that line. Now you want out? Assuming the rumor is true...I say let him go. Never keep an employee that doesn't want to work for you. Poison. Gators got a hard road ahead even with Rashada. The beauty of college ball is being hammered, between opt-outs, non-sit-out for transfer, NIL. Our beloved sport is being ruined. Yes, the Universities have benefited without giving these kids jack. The althetes deserve something, but this is getting out of hand. I'm not smart enough to know what that something is. NCAA football commish? SCOTUS ruling is problematic. Holding the love for the best sport around, but getting cranky.
Consider a scenario...UGA is ahead in the 2nd half. TCU making a game of it, closing the gap. A strip-sack, an interception on the wrong side of mid-field. It's the timing, not the player. SBIV has the experience and cool as the other side of the pillow. crazy happens. UGA has better players, by far, but man, them Froggies, don't sleep on 'em.
If UGA plays its best game, they win going away no matter how good TCU plays. SBIV is mistake-prone, though. Then he goes lights-out to make up for it. Timing of the mistake will be critical. Give TCU momentum, confidence at a crucial point, it's anyone's game. TCU has nothing to lose...a really good team, amazing coach. Watch out UGA. This game will be close.
Dawgs better bring it against TCU. Froggies got grit and attitude. Georgia will be favored. Will add to TCU's fire. Hoping both teams are full-go. Good luck to UGA...Keep the focus and bring it home. Cheers!
Congrats to UT on an outstanding season! Always a lot of pride in Knoxville...thick and thin through so many years of tough times. Burden of expectations going forward will be interesting. That's for later. Cheers to our friends at UT. Lots to be proud of on Rocky Top. See you next year...
Hardly wise, Nash. Keeping it real like you, Marsh, Doc and a few other reasonable voices on this site. Too much emotion/attention-grabbing leads to bad decisions. Any of us in science, engineering, medicine, mathematics, business, etc know about cold-fact evaluation. Wishing doesn't make it so. Be well and cheers from Upstate!
Pretty sloppy game overall, especially both defenses. Going forward, Gators have good foundation in the OL/Run-Game. Defense has some guys playing well individually, especially since Cox got the boot, but the scheme has not worked all season. CBN's eval of the defensive coaching should result in some changes this off-season. Overall, Gators are undermanned and did not scheme or execute well. Some things to build on though. AR is not an NFL QB prospect. Maybe he chases the NFL contract now, but it's not a developmental league. He'd struggle big time. Better to return, take some NIL, get an insurance policy and show growth at the college level. Either way he gets some bank. In the meantime, trolls gonna troll. Gators earned the lumps. It's just background noise for real Gator fans. I'm cautiously optimistic for the future, as I think most Gator fans are.
Wishing all our SEC fans a Happy Thanksgiving. I love the thrown shade of this site. Be well all and give Thanks for the many blessings that is SEC football. Be well today and always!
Been looking for you G. Sorry about Hooker. Great QB. I know that USC game was hard to see. Rattler punched above his weight and was just on. Vols are back on the map though. Future is bright in Knoxville. Gators getting beat by Vandy? I was at that game in Nashville in "88 when we lost. Talk about hurt. Lot to be proud of this year. We'll see you next time bro. Be well.
An outstanding QB who put UT back on the map. Heal well young man and thank you. Best wishes going forward in your NFL career.
No running game today. Why? Gators been strong on the ground the last 2 games, now we go back to drop-back, pocket passing? WTH? First half 2-point conversions are a bad decision, mostly. Take the extra-point, move on, play out the rest and see. I get the aggressiveness, but Gators can't convert consistently. Terrible game plan today. Vandy was better today. Nice game. Was in Nashville in '88 last time Gators lost up there. Emmitt was hurt, we had no ground game, couldn't throw. History repeats.
Stoops is a great coach. He's perservered through the hinterlands of UK football ineptitude and built himself a nice program. UK gave him some tools as well. Not trying to troll here, but have to ask our UK friends, Stoops is a known quantity...at what point does he say enough and go to a program with more upward potential if this is as good as it gets?
It's cool Fuzz. UT is still alive. Might make you puke, but gotta pull for UGA in the SECCG to have a chance. The Playoff Committee might give the SEC a one-finger salute and give the 4th spot to the OSU-Michigan loser too. Not out of the realm. Two big-ten teams is in play...If LSU beats UGA in the SECCG, UT will be out. Not like the Gators are scaring anyone, so gotta pull for someone. Cheers!
Respect has always been there Mountain. Too much rivalry history. I go back to Coach Dooley/Pell through the days. Been to many WLOCP games. Tipped many a glass with great UGA fans. Ain't no love, but in my experience, always respect...with a healthy dose of shade.
Coach Smart is as good as any right now. He's vicious. Hold you down, spit in your face...want to be us, better bring it. It's cool. The chase is fun, JTF. Might be a while to beat 'em though. He's got serious game, assistants and players. "There is no I in team, but there is an I in win." Michael Jordan. That's Coach Smart right now. Every member contributes to success when at this level.
Let it go, G. You're under the spotlight today...It's cool man. You put it out there and p*ss people off and throw great shade. Vols aren't ready yet. Gators really not ready yet. The Macallan 25 still tastes great. Cheers from upstate.
