Former Georgia running back Sony Michel is reportedly back in action at New England Patriots training camp. NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport shared Wednesday morning that Michel is off of the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list.

Michel, entering his third season in New England, had “maintenance-based” foot surgery in May. Last season, he rushed for 912 yards and 7 touchdowns on 247 carries leading the way in the Patriots’ running back by committee offense.

Michel could find new competition for carries this season. During Michel’s absence, former Alabama standout Damien Harris drew rave reviews as the Patriots’ “best back in camp.” The Patriots also used James White and Rex Burkhead at running back last season.

Getting off the PUP list before Week 1 means Michel does not have to miss any games to start the season. The Patriots selected Michel with the No. 31 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.
