It’s been more than a month since 2016 National Signing Day, and the nation’s top-rated wide receiver has yet to sign a letter of intent.

But five-star prospect Demetris Robertson, who is a target for both Alabama and Georgia, did sign some paperwork over the weekend.

According to a report from Rivals, Robertson has signed financial aid paperwork with Cal.

While financial aid paperwork is non-binding for athletes, it does allow Robertson to have unlimited communication with Cal coach Sonny Dykes.

Cal has always been in the picture for Robertson, as evidenced by his January Tweet referenced below, but the Golden Bears have not been considered a favorite prior to this revelation.

Robertson, who is from Savannah, Ga., visited Alabama in February and is believed to be planning a trip to Athens as well.

According to Rivals writer Woody Wommack:

As of now, Robertson doesn’t have a timeline to announce his decision, and isn’t planning on signing a letter-of-intent, even after announcing his planned destination.

The recruitment of Robertson is believed to be far from over, so consider this just another interesting plot twist for a player than could help a team as soon as this fall.
