Vanderbilt is trying to stay in bowl contention and post its first winning streak this season, but it won’t be easy.

Saturday the Commodores host Texas A&M.

Here are five players that need to make an impact Saturday.

1. QB Kyle Shurmur: In his second career start, Shurmur’s numbers weren’t flashy by any means (13 for 26 for 166 yards and two touchdowns), but he played well enough for the Commodores to beat Kentucky.

With two wins in two starts, Shurmur has the job. The next challenge is to keep it.

2. WR Caleb Scott: Shurmur’s success depends in part on the weapons around him, not just in RB Ralph Webb, but on the outside as well. Vanderbilt’s receivers have scored just five touchdowns, including one from Shurmur to a wide-open WR Scott for the touchdown. That trick play resulted in a busted coverage that left Shurmur uncovered.

It’s not surprising that Vandy’s receivers have struggled to find the end zone considering the team has scored 20 or more points just twice this season, but five TDs through 10 games is not enough.

3. S Oren Burks: It’s hard not to include the SEC’s Defensive Player of the Week on this list after the game he had against Kentucky. With three interceptions in 2015, including two last week (one a pick-six) the sophomore safety is taking charge in the Commodores secondary. The 4-star recruit has become the primary playmaker on a defense that ranks fourth in the SEC at 17.4 points allowed per game.

4. RB Ralph Webb:With four consecutive games of 99 rushing yards and above, including 118 yards against a stout Florida run defense, Webb has become a household name in the SEC.

He won’t blow you away with game-breaker speed, but with 231 carries this season (second most in the SEC, only eight behind Alabama RB Derrick Henry) Webb is the engine that drives this Commodores offense. Let’s see if the sophomore can make it three consecutive 100-yard games against Texas A&M.

5. CB Torren McGaster: Vanderbilt No. 1 corner Torren McGaster has potentially his toughest matchup as he lines up across from freshman sensation WR Christian Kirk.

Kirk already ranks second in the SEC in receptions and receiving yards (63 receptions for 828 yards). McGaster has played in every game in 2015 , but the Commodores will need his best effort of the season Saturday.
