Who doesn’t like schedule facts?

They’re quick, easy and most importantly … they’ll make you sound really smart when you drop them into casual conversations.

Let’s take a look at 10 interesting tidbits about Week 1 of the SEC schedule:

1. SEC teams are a combined 67-25-4 (.698 winning percentage) against their collective Week 1 nonconference opponents all-time. The only team without a winning record vs. its upcoming opponent is Texas A&M, which has a 2-2 record against UCLA entering this Saturday’s contest.

2. South Carolina and Vanderbilt will square off on Thursday, making it the only in-conference game of the week.

3. Florida (vs. UMass) and Tennessee (vs. Appalachian State) are the only two SEC teams that will play against an opponent that they have never seen before.

4. Auburn last played Clemson in 2012, LSU saw Wisconsin in 2014 as did Mississippi State with South Alabama. Outside of those three teams, no SEC team has faced their Week 1 opponent since at least 1998.

5. Only two SEC teams have true road games this week: South Carolina at Vanderbilt and Missouri at West Virginia. LSU, Georgia, Alabama and Ole Miss all play at neutral sites.

6. For many Power 5 teams, Week 1 serves as a “tune-up” week and a widely accepted opportunity to play an FCS opponent. However, no SEC team will see a non-Division I foe this weekend. Instead, seven Power 5 and five Group of 5 teams are on the slate. That’s outside of the Commodores-Gamecocks matchup.

7. In fact, it’s a daunting opening week for the SEC. Out of the 12 nonconference games on the schedule, five are against ranked opponents, with two coming against teams inside the top five (Auburn vs. No. 2 Clemson and Ole Miss vs. No 4 Florida State).

8. To elaborate even further, the SEC’s Week 1 nonconference opponents had a combined 106-53 record in 2015. Only two of these said programs had a losing record last season — UMass went 3-9 (vs. Florida) and South Alabama finished 5-7 (vs. Mississippi State).

9. In addition, 10 of these 12 opponents went to a bowl game and produced a 5-5 postseason record, not including Clemson’s loss to Alabama in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game.

10. This is the third time Alabama has been dubbed the preseason No. 1 favorite under Nick Saban (fifth time in school history). In 2010, the Crimson Tide pummeled San Jose State in the opener, 48-3, and in 2013, Alabama blew out Virginia Tech, 35-10.
