Nine SEC teams are ranked in the FPI Top 25 which estimates team strength relating to remaining schedule and expected performance.

For a quick refresher, here’s how ESPN explains the Football Power Index (FPI):

FPI is an estimate of team strength – not a ranking of who will have the highest win total (which is dependent on schedule) and not who is most likely to make the College Football Playoff. Preseason FPI is calculated using three major components for each FBS team: prior years’ offense, defense and special teams efficiencies; returning starters and head coach information; and recruiting rankings.

Alabama and Ole Miss, each saddled with a loss, are the only two SEC teams ranked inside the Top 5. Western Division leaders Texas A&M and LSU, two of three SEC teams that are still unbeaten, come in at Nos. 7 and 9, respectively.
