The SEC has long been noted as a conference that does hard-nosed defense and solid running games better than anyone else. The conference rose to the top with that formula, but many of the best wide receivers in the nation have come through the SEC over the past decade, as well.

Let’s take a look at the schools that have recruited the top talent at that position since 2006. Here’s a ranking of the top three:

3. Alabama Crimson Tide

Total four-star or five-star signees (16): Trevon Diggs, Cameron Sims, Derek Kief, Robert Foster, Chris Black, Amari Cooper, Marvin Shinn, Bradley Sylve, Danny Woodson, DeAndrew White, Kelwone Malone, Kendall Kelly, Michael Bowman, Kenny Bell, Julio Jones, Brandon Gibson.

The breakdown: Some of the best skilled athletes in American have come to Alabama during the Nick Saban era. Jones highlighted the 2008 class as a first-team All-SEC selection by the 2010 season and was a top 10 pick in the 2011 NFL Draft. Cooper followed in his footsteps. The 2014 Beletnikoff Award winner as the nation’s top receiver was the No. 4 overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft.

Noteworthy totals in Tuscaloosa: Julio Jones had 179 receptions for 2,653 yards and 15 TDs. Amari Cooper had 228 receptions for 3,463 yards and 31 TDs.

2. LSU Tigers

Total four-star or five-star signees (19): Stephen Sullivan, Dee Anderson, Drake Davis, Malachi Dupre, Trey Quinn, Tony Upchurch, Avery Peterson, John Diarse, Rickey Jefferson, Quantavius Leslie, Jarvis Landry, Odell Beckham Jr., Kadron Boone, James Wright, Rueben Randle, Terrance Tolliver, DeAngelo Benton, Demetrius Byrd, Ricky Dixon.

The breakdown: Les Miles has piled up the talent during his time at LSU. Wide receivers have done very well in attracting NFL scouts despite the Tigers notoriously inconsistent passing game. Beckham, Jr. (2014 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year) and Landry both played in the 2016 NFL Pro Bowl Game.

Noteworthy totals in Baton Rouge:  Odell Beckham Jr. had 141 receptions for 2,305 yards and 12 TDs. Jarvis Landry had  137 receptions for 1,809 yards and 15 TDs. Reuben Randle had 97 receptions for 1,634 yards and 13 TDs.

1. Florida Gators

Total four-star or five-star signees (20):  Freddie Swain, Joshua Hammond, J.C. Jackson, Demarcus Robinson, Ahmad Fulwood, Alvin Bailey, Ja’Juan Story, Javares McRoy, Chris Dunkley, Adrian Coxson, Solomon Patton, Quinton Dunbar, Andre Debose, Carl Moore, T.J. Lawrence, Omarius Hines, Deonte Thompson, Percy Harvin, Justin Williams.

The breakdown: The Gators were known as the SEC’s top passing team at one time. That was even before the fast-paced, hurry-up offenses became popular. The Gators have struggled throwing the ball the past few years but could be headed back toward that style of play, bringing in a couple of four-star wide receivers and one of the nation’s coveted quarterback recruits as well.

Noteworthy totals in Gainesville: Percy Harvin had 133 receptions for 1,929 yards and 13 TDs. He also had 194 rushes for 1,852 yards and another 19 TDs. David Nelson had 46 receptions for 630 yards and seven TDs. Solomon Patton had 52 receptions for 635 yards and six TDs.
