If four-star safety C.J. Avery ends up committing to an SEC program, it will be either Ole Miss or Mississippi State.

Avery (6-foot-1, 200 pounds) dropped his final top 5 on Friday afternoon, and both schools are in serious contention, along with Clemson, Louisville, and Florida State.

According to 247Sports, Avery is the No. 19 player at his position for the recruiting class of 2017 and the No. 5 prospect from the state of Mississippi. Experts currently believe he’ll stay in state, with a 56 percent lean toward the Bulldogs and 33 percent toward the Rebels.

In 12 appearances as junior last season, Avery recorded 69 tackles (5.0 for loss) with five interceptions and a fumble recovery. He also saw some time as a wide receiver, which emphasizes his versatility and next-level talent.
