The College World Series final between Vanderbilt and Michigan was the most watched baseball or softball game on ESPN this year.

Game three had 2.00 million viewers Wednesday night, which was up 18 percent in ratings and six percent in viewership compared to last year’s final between Arkansas and Oregon State, according to SportsMediaWatch.com.

The New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox game on June 2 had 1.97 million viewers, lower than Vandy-Michigan. Outside of that rivalry game, games one and two of Vanderbilt-Michigan also has more viewers than any other baseball games this year.

Certainly, the Southeast was tuning in to watch Vanderbilt, but Michigan’s massive fan base also played a huge part.

The complete three-game series averaged 1.94 million viewers, which was a slight decrease from last year. It’s the second-most watched final since 2014.
