LSU has announced its new No. 7 and two players who will wear No. 18.

Following Ja’Marr Chase’s decision to opt-out of the 2020 season and declare for the 2021 NFL Draft, JaCoby Stevens will be carrying on the legacy attached to No. 7.

Stevens’ LSU online bio calls him “the undisputed leader of the Tigers, a leader on the field, in the locker room and in the community”. A former 5-star recruit in the class of 2017, Stevens has developed into one of the top safeties in the SEC after bouncing around between various positions with the Tigers. Stevens started all 15 games in LSU’s national championship campaign. He finished second on the team in tackles (92) and sacks (5.0), adding 9 tackles for loss, 3 interceptions and 6 pass breakups to earn second-team All-SEC recognition from the conference coaches.

Stevens follows Grant Delpit, D.J. Chark, Leonard Fournette, Tyrann Mathieu and Patrick Peterson as LSU standouts to have worn No. 7.

After Chase opted-out, standout LSU cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. suggested on social media that he was sticking with No. 24 and wasn’t interested in No. 7.

As for No. 18, another special LSU jersey number, it will be shared two players, running back Chris Curry and linebacker Damone Clark.
