Alabama has made headlines in recent weeks by using former QB Blake Sims to simulate Texas A&M QB Trevor Knight and former RB Trent Richardson to simulate LSU RB Leonard Fournette during practices.

Both ex-Tide stars were trying to stay in shape for NFL comebacks, so coach Nick Saban invited them to work with the team.

During Wednesday’s SEC Media Presser, Ole Miss coach Hugh Freeze said the strategy is something the Rebels will look to utilize that strategy in the near future.

“Hate that I didn’t think of it first,” he said. “Trying to find out the rules on that.”

Shortly thereafter, Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin was also asked about Alabama’s use of former stars as scout team players.

Sumlin echoed Freeze’s thoughts, saying Saban has a knack for thinking outside the box.

“Nick is on the cutting edge, as always,” he said. “A lot of people look at it, but he’s already been through the ‘can you do that?’ phase. Even with his personality, I don’t think people understand his flexibility and his ability to think outside of the box.”

With so many former players trying to make it in the NFL, it’s only a matter of time until we hear about another ex-Tide star working out with Alabama’s scout team.
