Vanderbilt is doing what it can to keep Derek Mason in Nashville.

According to Commodore beat writer for the Tennessean Adam Sparks, Vanderbilt is expected to announce an extension for Mason in the coming hours.

Vanderbilt is coming off its best season under the third-year head coach and finished the year with a 6-7 record. The Commodores did, however, reach a bowl game for the first time under Mason, ending the season in the Independence Bowl.

The two major on-the-field highlights of the Mason era were also accomplished this season, as Vandy knocked off Georgia in Athens and finished the regular season by whipping Tennessee at home by a score of 45-34.

Mason has a combined record of 12-25 overall and 5-19 in SEC play since arriving in Nashville.
