It’s a bizarre adjustment to go from watching Alabama’s defense, maybe the best we’ve seen in years, dominate the LSU Tigers on Monday night, then watch Tom Brady throw five touchdowns in the first half against the Denver Broncos’ defense. Both equally impressive, but the difference caused me to consider why defense reigns supreme in college football and offense dominates the NFL these days.

Saturday night’s LSU-Alabama game served as a useful reminder that college football — especially SEC football — is not a “minor league” for anyone else. The NFL may dominate the nation’s media consciousness, but it’s important to remember that this is a comparatively recent phenomenon. The NFL itself was considered a minor league before the advent of television.

Cam Newton had 422 yards in his NFL Debut for the Carolina Panthers. He seems to have picked up in the NFL where he left off at Auburn. However, Patrick Peterson had the last laugh in this game when he had an 89 yard punt return for a touchdown to win the game. Watch the video clips here:
